Apple Offering Students $100 iTunes Card with any MacBook Purchase

Apple finally announced today what their back to school 2012 promotion offer would be, and lo and behold, it’s the same as last years $100 free iTunes gift card when you buy any Mac. This includes the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks. You can also get a $50 iTunes gift card when you buy the iPad, not bad, and better than nothing. Still, this is nowhere as good as the two years ago offer of getting a free iPod Touch with a retail value of $200 when you bought a Mac.

So here are the details, if you’re a student you can get the following discount prices on MacBooks:
Regular Price Student Price Savings
MacBook Air 11” $999 $949 $50 (5%)
MacBook Air 13” $1,199 $1,149 $50 (4.2%)
MacBook Pro 13” $1,199 $1,099 $100 (8.3%)
MacBook Pro 15” $1,799 $1,699 $100 (5.5%)
MacBook Pro with Retinal Display 15” $2,199 $1,999 $200 (9.1%)

The “best deal” is actually the $200 off the 15” MacBook Pro with Retina Display as you save nearly 10% when purchasing as a student. Of course, the price of $1,999 is still pretty hard to swallow if you’re a student on a budget. Not to mention, the power and display are probably overkill for typical student needs. Still, for those tempted to buy the MacBook Pro Retina Display even if you’re not a student you may want to figure out a way to qualify given the nice savings there. And just to remind you, to qualify for the back to school discount at Apple, you just have to be a college student (either attending or accepted), a parent buying for a student or a faculty or staff member at any academic learning institution (K – 12 or college).

And don’t forget, these discount prices all come on top of the free $100 iTunes gift card you get, so you might consider your saving even more. There’s no doubt going to be apps or music you’ll want to buy, so the gift card can be put to good use.
